During my maternity leave, I joined Abandoned Rails on Facebook. During those 1am and 3am feeds (lucky me) the almost 7,000 members on Abandoned Rails posted fascinating photos of endeavors past rusting into the dirt. They are stories of industry gone, social change, and atrophied choices in travel around our country.
One member, Frank Ranier, posts photos from the UK. I usually consider the UK to have a healthy and comprehensive rail system compared to us, but Frank shows us otherwise. Recently he shared this photo of this railway office storefront from Waterford. Some of these old storefronts are preserved in New York, but much of their artistry was lost to modernization.
